Miles' Birth Photos [Charleston Birth Place]
When I decided I wanted to have a water birth, I simultaneously decided to invest in birth photography as well. Unaware of how difficult it would be to find not only someone to meet my standards but that would be available, I started the journey of searching for photographers. I found out the place I was planning to give birth at worked closely with a photographer for their specific water births, however I was also told they weren’t the best [THANK YOU FOR BEING HONEST!]
I then reached out to my dear friend, Ruta Smith. I met her 5 years ago back when I lived in SC & worked for Charleston Magazine! She normally shoots stunning editorial images & lifestyle shoots so birth photography wasn’t her thing. However, we decided that I’d be her guinea pig IF she was available whenever I went into labor. & I trusted her vision COMPLETELY because I’d worked with her before so I had no problem communicating with her.
Needless to say, she made it to Miles’ birth 30 min before he came Earthside & captured this magic below. I didn’t even realize she was in the room until mayeb halfway through because she was THAT quiet [I was also in labor so everything was kind of a blur..] The midwives even were a fan of her because she stayed out of their way but still captured the atmosphere.
Ok, enough talking. Here is her magic. Enjoy this power & rawness.
